Its beauty post time dadadadaaaaaaaa!
Im really excited to finally do a beauty post, I did want to do one of these sooner and start with a vlog but my voice completely went last week and I was feeling poorly and rubbish!
Im going to show you the products I use on a daily basis, my holy grail of base makeup that I can’t live without right now, ill pop a link to a quick video of me doing my base makeup at the bottom too! Apologies in advance as the photos wont be the prettiest, I am already using all of these products so they are pretty worn down!
Im going to do the post in order, so you’re probably wondering where the part on primer is, but I don’t use it so there isn’t one!
I know I should use primer, I get told this daily at work, I know! I don’t find that my foundation slides off or looses coverage throughout the day, and I moisturize before I put my foundation on in a morning so I just don’t feel the need for a primer… I used to use one from MAC but I honestly didn’t see much difference, maybe one day I will try again!
This foundation, I swear has changed my life. I absolutely adore it! The coverage is amazing, it’s glowy, and I just don’t see myself being this impressed with another foundation ever again! When I first heard about the YSL Touche Éclat Le Teint foundation I didn’t think it would be one I would like, for some reason I didn’t expect the coverage to be very good. I think because it was a foundation developed from the Touche Éclat which is a concealer/highlighter, and not the other way around, I didn’t have high hopes – how wrong I was!
I literally get told every day that my skin looks nice or asked what foundation I am wearing, everyday! Obviously I don’t wear foundation to receive compliments, I wear it to make my skin looks nice and even… but its a good bonus! I have also recently tried the Fenty foundation, and I do love it. It makes your face looks like you’re having the best skin day ever, its full coverage with a nice matte finish. The only reason I have not yet purchased is because as mentioned before, I get asked all the time what I’m wearing or told my skin looks nice, and when I wore my sample of the Fenty foundation for a week nobody asked or commented on my skin – which I thought was unusual because even before using YSL, if I changed my foundation the people I see every day would usually notice some sort of difference? Maybe its just me.. I’m sure ill still be purchasing the Fenty one in the next few weeks but it was just an observation!
YSL Touche Éclat Le Teint foundation is full coverage, £33.50 and is available in 22 shades.
Im currently alternating between using two different concealers, or I will use them on different parts of my face but I love them both for different reasons and will definitely be repurchasing. The two I’m using are Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealer and Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Flawless Wear Concealer, thats a mouthful!
This is what Nars say about this concealer;
Natural look. High coverage. Soft-focus smoothing complex blurs, conceals, and smooths imperfections. Complete comfort. Completely natural-looking. Concealing hits an all-time high. Oil-free. Long-wearing. Non-drying. 16 shades for all skin tones.
INSTANT RESULTS: Soft-focus blurring with high-performance coverage. Optimal Diffusion Powder helps maximize light diffusion with spherical surface powders designed to absorb and refract light for soft-focus perfection. High coverage with weightless wear. Advanced powders with a unique structure lay flat, staying in place without settling into fine lines and pores.
And this is what Estee Lauder say about their concealer;
Looks flawless. Lasts 15-hours. Feels comfortable, never dry. Stays seamless, without creasing.
Its lightweight creme formula creates the perfected look of flawless skin all day. Transfer-resistant, colour-true, with medium buildable coverage that won’t slip, slide or melt away. Luminous finish.
I can agree with both of these statements, I don’t find that either of these concealers crease or sink into fine lines, although I do set underneath my eyes with powder. I find my concealer lasts all day, they don’t go cakey, oily, dry and don’t feel heavy on the skin – they are perfect! I could easily recommend these to every person I know! If you don’t get along with double wear foundation please don’t be put off by the concealer, apart from the coverage, the formula feels completely different to me. I find double wear foundation quite drying and feel like I have to blend it really quickly otherwise it just sets and then theres no going back unless you remove and reapply – the concealer isn’t like this at all so don’t worry!
I saw something on Instagram by Mario (makeupbymario) and tried it out using these two concealers, omg, it worked a dream! In the little video link at the bottom I will do this technique to show you. He talked about using a creamy concealer under the eye, such as my Nars one, and layering a lighter, liquid type concealer over the top, such as my Estee Lauder one, and then setting it all with a powder. I tried it, I loved it, its amazing! It literally sets your under eye so you look fresh all day, and no amount of mascara or eyeliner will imprint under your eyes when you do this, its incredible!
Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealer is £24 and available in 16 shades.
Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Flawless Wear Concealer is £23.50 and available in 8 shades
For under my eyes and around my jaw I have been using the Collection (Collection 2000 as I will always know it) Sheer Loose Powder in colour Translucent 2 to set my makeup. I usually buy mine from Superdrug, its £2.99 – yes £2.99!!! – and I have never ever had any issues with it at all. I don’t know what this would be like to use all over your face but for me, for under my eyes and on my jaw its perfect, works every time, lasts forever and is an absolute bargain!
Now, on to this dream boat product, this might be my best find of 2017 – and one I will be repurchasing forever and ever and ever and ever. Serious. Laura Mercier’s Candleglow Sheer Perfecting Powder.
When I started my new role I kept hearing this product crop up, everyone kept telling me to buy it and I wasn’t overly convinced having never used a setting powder before. I didn’t particularly want to be adding yet another product to my face – I was already overwhelmed by foundation, concealer, under eye setting powder, contour, highlight, bronzer… and thats just my skin!
Eventually I sat down and let one of the artists pop some on to my face, it took all of 7 seconds and when I looked in the mirror I literally looked as though someone had popped an Instagram filter over my face. I looked the same but better, does that make any sense? I couldn’t put my finger on exactly what it did, was I more glowy? Was it that it mattifyed my shiny bits? I don’t have a clue, but I know I looked 10x better than I did before. Anything that can do that in a few seconds gets my vote!
This is what Laura Mercier say about their Candleglow Sheer Perfecting Powder;
A multi-purpose, modern all-over pressed powder that sets, perfects, and finishes, leaving skin with a diffused, luminous glow. This silky pressed powder has just enough sheer colour to add the perfect, subtle glow and brighten up a complexion with a soft-focus finish. Apply with different brushes to customize your finish and coverage and create multiple looks.
If you buy any of the products I mention in this post, this has to be it!
Laura Mercier Candleglow Sheer Perfecting Powder comes in 6 shades and is £32.00
I have SO many highlighters, from high street to high end I love them all, and I’ll try as many as I can! I spend far too much time at work swatching highlighters from different brands and comparing them.
For the past few months I have been absolutely obsessed with the Nars Bord de Plage highlighting and bronzing palette, I use it every time I put makeup on, its part of my daily routine and I can’t imagine my life without it! I loved it so much that I bought two for fear of it running out and not being able to get my hands on another, as it’s limited edition. Thankfully though, it is still available on the Nars website… I’m not sure how that will last!
I don’t just use this palette for highlight and bronze, the shades makes a FIRE eyeshadow combo too. Hands down the most versatile item I have in my make up bag and even though I love highlighters, and wont stop buying them… I don’t think another even comes close to this item. Its the real deal and you need it in your life right now, its £45 and considering you get 4 highlighters and 2 shades of bronze that works out at £7.50 per product, how can you say no? Its an investment. Trust me.
When using it you can go as subtle or extreme as you want. I tend to use the lightest highlight (top left) for under my eyebrow, the tip of my nose and on my cupids bow. On my cheekbones and down my nose I usually mix the pinky one (bottom left) with the light golden shade (top middle). For contour I alternate between the two matte shades and then use the golden highlight (bottom middle) on my cheeks to give me a bronzed look. Easy.
LOOK AT THOSE SWATCHES!!!!!!!
The Nars Bord de Plage highlight and bronzing palette is still available on their website and is £45
As mentioned above I generally just use my Nars palette for bronze. If I’m not using the Nars palette the bronzer I will reach for my Revolution Baked Bronzer in the colour Rock on World. USE THIS SPARINGLY! It’s so pigmented, which means its lasted me years as you need so little to achieve the perfect glow – and for £4 how can you say no?
If you have ever used Mac’s Mineralize Skinfinish in Gold Deposit then the Revolution Rock on World is very, very similar – only you can buy 6 of them for the same price and still have 50p to spare! Yay!
You can buy the Revolution Baked Bronzer from Superdrug for £4, and it is available in 3 shades.
I was recently e-mailed a link to an amazing website with the best foundation reviews across all the most popular brands. The prices on the website are in dollars $$$ but you can easily google the product you choose after reading the reviews and buy them on the website best for the location you are in! The website is so easy to use and that have reviews on everything from foundation to carpet cleaner!
Let me know if you have used any of the products I’ve talked about or if you want to. Is there anything you would recommend? Ive heard so much about the Tarte Shape Tape concealer, is it worth the hype? Another product everyone keeps telling me I need is Mac Prep + Prime Fix+, let me know if you use it, how you use it and what you think!
