My posts haven’t been as regular as I would like recently, but there has been good reason for it! I wrote a post here about the places I have lived and what they looked like, and about how excited I was to move into somewhere with Jack.
Since starting my blog I have been living at home, after moving out of a place I lived on my own and waiting for Jack’s tenancy to end, so we could move in together. And now we are finally in our new place and I couldn’t be happier to make our house, a home!
The house we have moved into came to be for rent because the owner was relocating to London, so instead of selling this house to buy one down south, he decided to rent it out, to cover his London rent costs. As soon as I viewed the house I loved it, You really get a homely feel to the property and can tell that its been a home rather than a development, purely to bring in money.
I always worry when renting because I have a little Chihuahua, but amazingly the landlord has allowed us to bring Prince! Since I moved out of home the first time, my Mum and I have always shared Prince. I know that sounds very odd, but Mum and her partner work very irregular shift patterns, sometimes doing a whole week of nights while the other is working days, 3 days of 14 hour shifts, 4 days of only working mornings and so on, so usually there is somebody home, but sometimes they will both be working back to back for a few days on the trot. I work in retail, so I have 1 weekend off a month and my days off are usually Monday-Friday, so between us there is always somebody around to give Prince all the attention he needs. Now that we have Jack in the mix too its even better, as he has every weekend off. I know that for some dogs this might be unsettling and have them feeling like they don’t know whether they are coming or going, but Prince seems absolutely at ease with this way of life and is just as comfortable at Mum’s as he is here with us. As soon as he walked into the new property he was happy to eat the food I had put out for him, have a wonder around and settle down on a cushion straight away, showing he wasn’t stressed by the change in surroundings at all. Happy days!
The house we chose is in Meanwood, just a 10 min walk/2 min drive from Chapel Allerton. We were looking to live in Oakwood, Roundhay or Chapel Allerton ideally, but with this house being just down the road from the locations we wanted we couldn’t let it go! The checklist we had in mind was the following
- At least 2 bedrooms… CHECK
- Garden… CHECK
- Driveway… CHECK
- Decent size kitchen with plenty of storage space… CHECK
- Wardrobe space (my bad, too many clothes and shoes)… CHECK
- Neural decorating throughout (incase the land lord was not happy for us to paint)… CHECK
It isn’t often you come across a house when renting that ticks all the boxes. So when we found this gem in our price range we were super excited. I feel like when you are buying, its really important to tick all the boxes and get the right location, where as when you are renting its easy to let a few things slide and just live with it, so we are very lucky so come across a property that exceeded our expectations! Its the type of house that we would buy if it was to come up for sale – super in love with it!
A few bits I love the most about the house is the built in wardrobes in the main bedroom – I mean, when I say I have a lot of clothes this is no overstatement, and I don’t really know how I still have so many when I have been clearing out and eBay’ing items like crazy! Jack has very kindly put all his things in 1/4 of the wardrobe… leaving me free to fill the other 3/4 and an additional wardrobe in my next favorite room, the office. Who do we think we are having an office right? Neither of us work from home but it was already made into an office when we moved in, its big enough to have a single bed and be a box room, but as we have a spare double bedroom there really isn’t any need for that.
I have put all my cosmetics in the office and we are going to use it as somewhere to get ready in a morning. Im really excited to also use it as somewhere to do some blogging too! Its a lovely light airy room with a view onto the street for procrastinating (or being a nosey neighbour) and I think it will be the perfect place to concentrate on editing my photos and getting sh*t done!
We booked our bed frame delivery for the day we moved in (19th Feb) but we didn’t realize we wouldn’t be able to get the keys until around 1pm, so we missed the delivery and unfortunately wont have a bed frame until Thursday 1st March! Its a big shame because I was really looking forward to waking up in our first place together, in our big new bed but never mind, its something to look forward to next week I suppose!
The only thing about the house I think we are going to change (I have permission, don’t worry!) is the purple wall in the master bedroom. Our bed frame is white and all the other bedroom walls are cream, so I they would look best all the same colour. I did want to paint them all white but because of the built in wardrobe its a little unrealistic and I would probably flatten myself under the wardrobes if I dare move them so, thats a no from me!
Hope you enjoy the photos of the house! I will have to do another post once our bed frame comes to show you what its like… Cant wait for it to arrive, I am in love with it!!!
MY FAVOURITE ROOM, THE OFFICE:
And thats it!
Let me know any tips you have for me to make it more homely! Especially anything nice I can do with the fire places, curtain suggestions? Im thinking overly long, drapey white ones? What should I have on the walls? Mirrors or art work? Me and Jack do struggle to agree on artwork!
