Hi Lovelies, it’s been a while…
You may, or may not have noticed that I have been a little MIA. If you follow me on Instagram (@chelsealeightranmer) then you wont have missed me at all as I have been active on there this whole time, and a little bit on Twitter (@ChelseaLeighx) too! My lack of posts hasn’t been an accident, I needed to take a step back in order to move forward, and you know what? Thats ok.
I started feeling a lot of pressure to get content and posts published, constantly. Everyone is different and you shouldn’t compare yourself to others, but sometimes thats easier said than done. A lot of the people I follow on WordPress will post nearly every day, or every other day. So I was feeling pressure to do the same. I was aiming for twice a week, maybe 3, but if I was struggling to make time to write then instead of accepting it, I was letting it was play on my mind 24 hours a day. I was waking up thinking ‘right, when am I going to have chance to take blog photos in between working an 8 hour day, going to the gym, eating dinner, doing house work, looking after my dog, spending time with Jack…’ It seemed like all of a sudden there just wasn’t enough hours in the day and it was really getting on top of me, S T R E S S I N G me out, and making me feel really guilty if I didn’t get a post up. I stopped enjoying my free time and started feeling guilty about relaxing, I felt like I should be glued to my laptop at every opportunity.
Im sure theres a million people with FAR busier lives than I have, but I’m happy to hold my hands up and say ‘it got on top of me, and I had to take a break!’. I had a few things going on, and so I just decided to switch off. If i’m feeling pressured to write posts, then the posts I write aren’t going to be good, because they wouldn’t be coming from a good place – and whats the point in that? I will say one thing though, during this time I didn’t just stop my own blog posts, I stopped reading ALL blogs, and thats not cool. There are people that have supported me since I started and I have supported them too, so to just go silent for over a month isn’t very nice, and for that I’m sorry! I promise I’m going to catch up now on all the posts I have missed and continue to do so!
One thing thats also been playing on my mind is blog posts ‘vs’ YouTube. I wont lie, the amount of YouTube vlogs and influencers I follow and watch significantly outweighs the blogs that I regularly read. It got me thinking, whats the point in me writing all the time when nobody seems to have time to read anymore? Everyone watches, because its easier and you get to know the person more! But you know what, I’m enjoying it. So even if nobody is here to read my ranting, I’m still going to write it! Maybe one day I will do some YouTube videos too, as I LOVE watching vlogs it would be cool to have my own, but lets take this one step at a time… my life isn’t exciting enough to vlog right now anyway!
While I’ve had a little break this is what I’ve been doing, WORKING, I got my hair done finally and I’m really happy with it at the moment! It has been my birthday, so a lot of time was spent trying to find something to wear for my celebrations (why do we put so much pressure on ourselves to look ‘perfect’ on our birthday?), I painted our bedroom, something I’ve been meaning to do since we moved in, and I also got a NEW JOB!
By the time this post goes live I will have told everybody that needs to know, so why not share it will my blog too! I went into retail straight from 6th form, so its been 7 years now, and I felt ready for a change. It’s a strange feeling, as I’m changing my career path completely. Even though I know I had a lot of opportunities coming up within my retail job, and I know I could have continued to progress, retail will never be able to give me more of a ‘life’, and thats what I crave. That’s the thing with retail, you have to sacrifice the routine that ‘normal’ jobs give you, and a lot of the time thats fine, but around Christmas and when last minute plans come up that you can’t accommodate, it can really suck. So, if you aren’t happy with an aspect of your life, there’s no point moaning about it, you have to change it. And thats what I did. I will be going from a management, customer facing position in retail, to a ‘product executive’ role in the head office of a flight and holiday company! Its a big change, but I’m confident that it will be a positive one, I’m sure my skills will be easily transferred and I have a passion for all things travel already, so even though I’ll have to start from the bottom I’m hoping for the best! Im not going to lie, I am SUPER excited to have weekends off for the first time ever, I can’t wait for my first ever Friday feeling but I also can’t wait to try something completely new!
What I will miss about retail, is the discount. HOLY SHIT. I can’t tell you how great it has been to be able to buy beauty products with 30% off. Writing about cosmetics can wrack up quite the bill when you’re constantly trying out new products, so having them so accessible to me has been great. I could literally try the products and get information about them while I was working! RIP staff discount I will miss you so much xoxoxoxoxo
