I thought today would be a good day to do a little life update, for my 50 whole followers! I know you’re probably reading this thinking ‘Why are you excited over 50 followers?’. Im aware that 50 followers is absolutely nothing in the world of blogging. But to me, I didn’t even think I would get 10 people wanting to regularly read my posts! Im grateful each and every time I get an email notifying me of a new follower, like, comment, or wherever I check my stats after I post something new. So THANK YOU to those of you who have chosen to read my posts!
I haven’t really broadcasted the fact I have a blog to many people in my personal life… still! I have put it on my Twitter (which I’m trying to use more!), and all my close friends are aware, but I haven’t put anything out on my Facebook or Instagram yet – these are the two platforms I use the most and quite frankly… its scary!
I don’t know if anyone else feels like this, but I really feel like unless you’re an influencer who is lucky enough to blog/post as your full time job, you are mocked/not taken seriously. People look at small blogs and think ‘whats the point?’. For me, I just wanted to start this as I have SO many products I wanted to talk about. I get so excited about new releases and trying beauty products that I thought it would be nice to have an outlet and a platform to write about my thoughts and keep myself occupied on my days off etc. One day I will share my blog on my Facebook/Instagram page, and I’m sure a lot of people I have on there will probably think its silly – but its making me happy, Im really enjoying doing this so far – so who gives a fuck? (excuse my French).
ANYWAY, ramble over…
AN ACTUAL LIFE UPDATE: WE FOUND A HOUSE TO RENT!
I wrote about the houses I have lived in and whats next in a post here, and finally Jack and I have found a lovely house to move into. We will be moving in on the 19th Feb, 4 weeks and 4 days from today, and I am SO excited!
I had spotted two houses I was interested in and arranged to view them with my mum on my day off (I like to have an ‘adult’ second opinion!). When it got to the day, the estate agent for the house I liked the most out of the two called me to say it had been let, and so my viewing had been cancelled. I had my heart set on that house a little too much I think, so when I got the call I was disappointed because I didn’t have high hopes for the other property… how wrong I was.
Originally we had been looking to rent an unfurnished property, we figured that in the long run it would be more cost effective to have our own furniture so that when we eventually buy, we don’t have to buy a whole house worth of furniture and appliances too. I hadn’t realised when I booked the viewing that the house was furnished – but once I got inside and had a look around I really didn’t care! I couldn’t believe what a gem we had landed on, huge garden with decking, two double bedrooms, a box room which is currently an office with built in wardrobe, lovely big living room and a modern kitchen with two handy utility closets – I knew straight away that it was perfect!
The only big bit of furniture we have to get before we move in is a bed, the landlord asked if it would be okay for him to take the bed from the master bedroom, and as we were prepared to move into an unfurnished property anyway, this wasn’t a problem at all. We went bed shopping the weekend just gone and found the perfect king size from Barker And Stonehouse! I am literally in love with it! Jacks patently very kindly offered to buy us the bed as a house warming present – as they did the same for Jacks brother and girlfriend when they bought their first home in 2017. I can’t thank them enough… its just so super generous of them! I have linked the bed here, it’s in the sale online for £849 but was £699 instore because it was the display bed. Once we went to checkout the sales assistant said there were more in the warehouse, so we could have the bed at the display price but the one we will be receiving is brand new… AMAZING!
The current tenant owns the property but is relocating, he was there when we viewed the house and it was really handy to be able to ask him all the questions we needed. I also told them about my little chihuahua Prince and they have given us permission for him to long along too! We got Prince when I was still in school and living at home, and when I have lived in my other properties it always worked really well for Prince to live between mine and my mums house. I know a lot of dog enthusiasts like myself might say that this isn’t good for the dog as it means his routine isn’t consistent – but we find for for us, and for him, it works. He can be very shy and timid after not having the best start in life, and we really feel that with him living between both homes it keeps him social and open to change in environment. He has been known to come along with us to a friends house for example, and just sit in the corner or under a chair the whole time shivering and looking frightened – but when his environment is changing every few weeks with people he knows and trusts it really has made him more confident to go to a new place knowing that nothing bad will happen, because we love him and wouldn’t let anything harm him! Chihuahuas are known to be best suited to couples or single’s as they tend to bond to one person and be dismissive of everyone else, but after years of building trust Prince has accepted more people as part of him family than we ever thought he would.
UPDATE NUMBER TWO – I CHANGED MY CONTRACEPTION.
To much information? Sorry about that. I did a post about my fitness journey/weight gain drama here, and I mentioned in there that I thought my contraception was playing a massive part in this. And it turns out, it was! I spoke to my GP and with all my symptoms she thought I was suffering from an under active thyroid, when I looked this up myself I could see why she thought my thyroid might be the problem, literally every symptom is what I’m going through! We did a blood test and thankfully my thyroid was absolutely fine, so she agreed to remove my implant 2 years earlier than planned and after looking at all the alternate contraceptive options I chose to switch to the mini pill. I chose the mini pill for a few reasons, 1. I started straight on the implant as my first form of contraception and was very nervous that if I had a pill that needed a break, I would just forget when to start taking it again and then end up pregnant… which isn’t in the plan for another few years! With the mini pill you just take it every single day, with a 12 hour window. Simples! Reason number 2. We have a family history of some health issues that mean I can only use certain types of pill, and this one seemed the safest all things considering. While I was getting my implant out we were having a general conversation about how it was so strange that I had no side effects and absolutely loved my first two implants, 3 years each that I had consecutively, and how this third one just caused me nothing but issues. My GP then informed me that my third implant was a different brand to the first two – does anyone else not think this is something I should have been informed of before they inserted it so I could have done my research?! I read loads of message board when I got home and found SO many girls had this same problem, my experience with Implanon was perfect, but it was the Nexplanon that I had in the third time and it just messed with all my hormones. The GP’s say there is no difference in terms of effectiveness and side effects but from all of the side effects I suffered and all the girls who seem to be in the same boat – I beg to differ! Itchy skin, weight gain, loss of libido and generally feeling tired all the time were things I just wasn’t prepared to settle for. I don’t often weigh myself, but my doctor weighted me at my appointment and in 1 year and 2 months since getting this new implant I had gained 2 and a half stone. What the hell? I have a personal trainer and I don’t eat that badly, I’m on my feet all day at work and there is just no way I could put on weight like that with the lifestyle I’m leading. 3 days after I had the implant out I had lost 5 pounds! I’m going to start weighing myself monthly just to see if any more weight starts to come off, I usually judge what I want to work on by how I look rather than what the scales are saying, but after gaining 2 and a half stone Im intrigued to see what happens.
UPDATE NUMBER THREE – I CHANGED MY SKIN CARE ROUTINE…
Im trying a new skin care routine at the moment and so far, so good! Im using a mix of Garnier, Mario Badescu, Pixi, Organically You and La Prairie… reviews of individual products and the whole routine together pending.
I had always had ‘alright’ skin. Not too bad, not particularly good, theres always some sort of blemish or pigmentation I’m trying to get rid of and after lusting over Alessandra Steinherr skin one night I decided enough was enough! I had so many skin care products I have been wanting to try and just hadn’t got round to and thought, why not? I’ve never had a set skincare routine and I’ve really enjoyed getting into one! I’ve noticed a significant difference after just a week so I’m excited to see what my skin will be like after a few months. Watch this space!
And thats it from me! Sorry I’ve been a little absent this week, you can blame Jack for that, he gave us both food poisoning!
