Hi Lovlies! Welcome to another post featuring my make-up-less face!

When I first saw this charcoal mask by MAC I was veeeery skeptical. I know everyone loves the MAC fix+ and other skin bits, but for actual skin care they just aren’t a brand that I would think of! Is that wrong? Is it only me who wouldn’t turn to MAC for a face mask?¬†Because I wasn’t absolutely sold on this product I decided to try a sample of it first, and oh my days. If any product has blown me away from just trying a sample it’s this. I have told everyone I work with about how good it is!

As I have been focusing on my skin more and trying to finally take care of it, I’ve noticed that I have quite a few blackheads/super visible pores on my nose and now its my mission to get rid of them! When I was speaking to the sales assistant at MAC she was telling me that this is perfect to use on your nose, chin and forehead area – and not recommended to be used all over your face. Perfect to target the areas I need to focus on!

I have been trying to combat excessive sebum build up by using AHA products and my Mario Badescu Acne Facial Cleaner every day, But I love to use masks and products made of tougher stuff weekly to really try and break down all the bad bits!

Now, apart from their stand out ingredients that MAC mention in the product description, I really can’t find a full ingredients list anywhere on the internet to see what else its packed with. The stand out products within the mask are bamboo charcoal powder and white clay. Bamboo charcoal powder is amazing because it has the powder to draw out impurities without being absorbed itself. The white clay is amazing because its perfect for all age and skin types, it gently draws out excess oil and grime for your pores, while also working as a mild exfoliant, reducing the size of your pores and leaving you with clear, glowing skin. Just what we all want, Right?

This is what MAC say about their Mineralize Reset & Revive Charcoal Mask;

This mask is infused with bamboo charcoal powder and a mineral-rich white clay to purify pores from the inside out, penetrating deeply and eliminating impurities. Excess oil is swept away, skin looks clearer, feeling smoother. Makeup glides on seamlessly.

  • Absorbs excess oil
  • Reduces appearances of pores, minimizes blackheads and prevents blemishes
  • Deeply penetrates skin to unclog pores
  • Clarifies and smoothes skin
  • Leaves skin feeling and supple
  • Dermatologist tested
  • Ophthalmologist tested
  • Non-acnegenic
  • For all skin types, and best for normal to oily skin

In first instance I was surprised at how the mask actually looks, that might sound weird, but in my experience of charcoal masks they usually look matte in colour, this mask is really shiny, similar to how shampoo can look but with a different consistency.

The mask goes on super smooth and MAC recommend leaving it for around 10 mins or until completely dry. Let me tell you, once this mask is dry take a close look at your nose. I spoke about this with someone else who tried it so I know it isn’t just me, but you can actually see little white spikes of sebum coming out of your pours when you look in the mirror! Its INSANE! Once the mask is dry you can see all of your pores and what its managed to extract, I LOVE products where you can see it working and get instant results!

MAC say to rinse the mask off with warm water, and there you have it! My little sample pot has lasted for 4 applications, but bare in mind I have only used it on my nose/chin and not all over my face.

At first instance looking at the before and after photos it might not look like much has changed in terms of my pores, but the fact the camera isn’t focused on the end of my nose doesn’t help, appologies! In person and I can definitely see the difference, especially around the side of my nose the pores look reduces and there are less little black heads, the skin generally looks brighter, not as greasy and healthier!

After trying a sample, will I buy this product? YES. YESYESYESYESYES! Infact, I rate it more than the Mario Badescu Silver powder, which I also reviewed here.
