Continuing my new found love for high street makeup I want to talk about the Maybelline Fit Me! concealer (£5.99), mostly because, lets be honest… it looks like it’s trying to be the NARS Radiant Creamy concealer (£24)!
When I saw the Maybelline Fit Me! concealer on the shelf the first thing I thought was how similar it looks to the NARS Radiant Creamy, down to the size, packaging and applicator it is remarkably similar on appearance… all it’s missing is the matte finish, the £24 price tag and the extensive shade range.
The Maybelline Fit Me! concealer comes in 6 shades, compared to the extensive 30 shades of the NARS Radiant Creamy concealer. I went for shade ‘sand’ in the Fit Me which is a bit lighter/pinker (is pinker a word?) than my Radiant Creamy, but thats because I chose a colour that was a little too dark the last time I bought my NARS concealer, not because I couldn’t find a shade which was similar. The Maybelline Fit Me! concealer contains 6.8ml of product compared to the NARS Radiant Creamy concealer which only contains 6ml.
Although the Maybelline Fit Me! concealer wins in terms of price and amount of product, I think the formula could do with a bit of work. I like quite a pigmented concealer with a creamy consistency, where as the Maybelline Fit Me! concealer is a gel based formula, and I find that it feels watery, and when blending it seems to disappear, needing another layer to get the desired effect. However, given the price and the amount of product you can afford to double up I suppose!
Once the Maybelline Fit Me! concealer is blended and set though, there is hardly any difference between the Fit Me! and the Radiant Creamy. But do make sure you set it, otherwise it creases quite quickly. Another Fit Me! win is the applicator wand, now I don’t know if it’s just me, but I find the Radiant Creamy wand a little bit sharp and I’ve scratched my skin a few times with it, where as the Fit Me! wand is much softer, with a similar feel to the Revolution Conceal & Define applicator (although not as big… the Revolution one is a beast!).
Overall, I think the Maybelline Fit Me! concealer is a good high street alternative to the NARS Radiant Creamy concealer, with more product, a cheaper price and a good finish, but it isn’t quite a match in terms of the formula quality and the range of shades – 6 shades really isn’t enough for everyone to find a ‘fit’, where as the NARS Creamy Radiant concealer has 40 shades to choose from.
You can buy the Maybelline Fit Me! concealer from Superdrug for £5.99
