You will have probably noticed by the recent theme in my posts, but I am balls deep into skin care at the moment… even more so than I was before! I think this has come because I now work in a job where it isn’t required for me to wear a full face of makeup everyday, and I never thought I would say this, but I’m actually really enjoying not having to wear foundation every single day! I still love makeup to no end, but not having to wear a full face Monday to Friday has meant I enjoy the process of applying it even more than I used to, because it isn’t a daily chore.
Because I am wearing less makeup for the majority of the week I want my skin to look as good as it can, so my skin care routine and products are being used religiously with a set routine every morning and night – and I am loving the results. My skin is generally normal/combination. I still get some breakouts although they are minimal, I get a little oily around my nose sometimes but usually I don’t see much change in my skin week to week. I always get a little break out when I start using a new product, particularly if it contains strong acids, but it always settles.
So, lets take a look at what my current skin care routine is in order of use, night and morning!
- Cleanse (make up removal)
Using the fastest action cleanser I have EVER used, the Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench cleanser makes cleansing off make up an absolute walk in the park! There’s nothing worse than spending half your night scrubbing mascara from your face, but this cleanser is so fast acting it takes me no time at all to remove a full face of make up – meaning it isn’t a drag to do even when I’m super sleepy and all I want is my bed. The Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench cleanser is a cream formula and super gentle, I wrote a full blog post all about it here.

2. Cleanse (skin concerns)
Recently I have been using the Mario Badescu Glycolic Foaming Cleanser and have seen some pretty good results so far! My last Mario Badescu cleanser lasted FOREVER and this one is following suit, I’ve barely made a dent to the bottle and I have been using it a couple of months. The reason I use this after already cleansing once is because the Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench cleanser contains mostly ingredients to remove make up and hydrate, rather than to specifically treat any skin concerns. Where as the Mario Badescu Glycolic Foaming Cleanser contains no ingredients to break down make up, all of the ingredients are there to treat skin concerns. I think it’s best to remove make up and then to cleanse again to really get into the pores and leave your skin squeaky clean so that all of your other products can work without being blocked by residual dirt. You can read about the benefits of double cleansing in my post here. Tip: When the cleanser starts foaming try not to breath in the bubbles through your nose, it leaves an uncomfortable feeling!

I almost feel like everyone must be completely bored of me banging on about my favorite toner, the famous Pixi Glow Tonic is my savior! Another product in my skin routine that contains glycolic acid (maybe I should chill out on the glycolic…), the Pixi Glow Tonic is an exfoliating toner which breaks down all of the bonds attaching dead skin cells to the skins surface, revealing the new healthy skin cells underneath. Other ingredients include aloe to soothes and hydrate while promoting healthy skin cells and vibrancy, witch hazel to firm and tone, and horse chestnut to boost blood flow – leaving your skin with an undeniable glow! I wrote a full review on the Pixi Glow Tonic here. Apply to a cotton pad and sweep over your face.

My beloved Sunday Riley C.E.O Rapid Flash Brightening Serum changed my whole opinion on serums! For so long I just thought serum’s were a made up filler product that the beauty industry created to make more money… I was so wrong! Since the day I started using this serum my skin tone has been more even, any small signs of pigmentation I had have been reduced, my skin glows when I have applied this and looks so healthy, more firm and ‘plump’. Serums also hold so much moisture that your skin just drinks it up after cleansing and toning. The Sunday Riley C.E.O Rapid Flash Brightening Serum isn’t the cheapest serum on the market but it is the best I have tried. I’ve nearly run out of my second bottle and it’s all very emotional. You can read my full review on the Sunday Riley C.E.O Rapid Flash Brightening Serum here.

Another Sunday Riley product, and another product I am down to my last few drops of. CRY. The Sunday Riley U.F.O Ultra-Clarifying Face Oil was recommended to me by a colleague who bought it to clear up break outs, I was suffering with a skin reaction at the time so I was willing to try anything to help clear it up as fast as possible. Containing salicylic acid, milk thistle, cucumber seed, tea tree, cumin seed oil and camomile, it is packed full of everything you need to combat break outs from all directions! The Sunday Riley U.F.O Ultra-Clarifying Face Oil is completely non greasy, use three days a week at first (or every other day), and then gradually build up to daily if needs be, pump a few drops onto your face and massage or press into your skin. The formula smells so amazing and feels even better. You can read my full review here.

6. Eye Cream
NARS Total Replenishing Eye Cream… I know what you’re thinking, NARS?! For skin care?! YES YES YES! NARS have an absolutely fantastic skin care range and this eye cream is no exception. A super light and hydrating formula glides onto your under eye with no dragging and absorbs instantly. A little bit goes a long way! At the moment I am using eye cream as more of a preventative action than a product that I am waiting to see results from, because I generally don’t suffer from bad bags or lines (YET). However, I can be prone to concealer creasing and I can safely say that since using this eye cream it hasn’t been an issue. To apply, I use my finger tips to dab it onto my under eye, and I then use sweeping outwards motions from the tear duct area – outwards. Never rub eye cream in using a back and forth motion, this drags the delicate skin around your eyes around too much and can do more harm than good, only sweeping outwards motions or dabbing! Someone once said ‘no window wipers’ and that has stuck with me… whenever applying eye cream remember, NO WINDOW WIPERS!

Last but not least! Moisturiser! I have tried a lot of moisturisers and to be honest, it’s something I’m not too picky about. As long as the moisturiser is light enough to easily absorb and not block my pores but thick enough to feel protective, I’m not fussy. At the moment I switch between using the Skin Laundry Advanced Protect Essential Daily Moisturiser and the Estee Lauder Day Wear. I think because I use a full skin care routine, religiously i don’t focus on moisturiser as the main part of my routine but I know it’s something a lot of people are really keen on… maybe when I start suddenly aging like a prune I will start feverishly looking for the best moisturiser.
It looks like the Advanced Protect Essential Daily Moisturiser is now discontinued, so I have linked the Skin Laundry Essentials Daily Moisturiser instead, Feel Unique £28
Estee Lauder DayWear Moisturiser, Estee Lauder £26
When doing a morning cleanse I use my cleanser that it for skin concerns, as I have no makeup to remove and my skin is already nice and clean from the night time routine. Because the cleanser I am using for skin concerns at the moment is quite a strong one (ingredients wise), I have only been morning cleansing every other day. I think twice a day with the Mario Badescu Glycolic Foaming Cleanser would be far too much. Before I ran out (boohooooo), I was using the Eve Lom Gel Balm CleanserEve Lom Gel Balm Cleanser on a morning which was amazingly gentle and perfect for daily use, if you’re looking for a gentle multi-purpose cleanser this one is definitely a top recommendation. The Eve Lom Gel Balm Cleanser is perfect for a morning cleanse because it is so gentle, packed with natural ingredients and leaves the skin feeling super moisturised, ready to apply your makeup or head out for the day with cleansed and protected skin. The smell is also UNREAL and lovely to wake you up.

A while ago I was gifted the Sisley Grapefruit Toning Lotion, and have been using this on a morning instead of my Pixi Glow Tonic because it is more gentle on the skin. Grapefruit tones and minimises pores, and this toning lotion leaves the skin with a nice matte finish, which is what makes this one perfect for a morning. I was using this on a night time for a while too when I first received it, but I wasn’t seeing as fast acting results as I do with Pixi Glow Tonic which is why the Sisley Grapefruit Toning Lotion is now in my morning routine. As I apply makeup afterwards anyway, I don’t feel like the ingredients need to be as effective, but it still preps and protects my skin nicely.
Sisley Grapefruit Toning Lotion, Sisley £72.50
3. Eye Cream
To prevent concealer creasing under my eyes I always apply eye cream before I put on my make up. I loooooooove putting on eye cream on the morning, just the process of it and the sweeping outwards motions instantly wakes me up and makes my skin feel invigorated. I use the NARS Total Replenishing Eye Cream on a morning as well as on a night.

The final step, moisturiser! Because I don’t really use a primer, I always end my morning skin care routine and start my make up routine with moisturiser. I feel like it just seals all of the great skin care ingredients in and lives you skin a nice barrier ready for your make up/outside elements. Like above, I have been using the Skin Laundry Advanced Protect Essential Daily Moisturiser on a morning because it contains a high SPF of 35. Another product I like to use is my Organically You Avocado & Rosehip Facial Balm, because it is 100% natural and makes my skin glow! I have been running low recently and my bottle is in no fit state for photographing but I just placed an order for another and this will be back in my routine in no time!
As above, it looks like the Advanced Protect Essential Daily Moisturiser is now discontinued, so I have linked the Skin Laundry Essentials Daily Moisturiser instead, Feel Unique £28
Organically You is a 100% natural independant skin care brand which is located in Roundhay, Leeds. You can find Organically You products on their website here, as well as local markets (Briggate, Oakwood etc) – if you’re from the area make sure you keep an eye out! I have a lot of products I want to use and get my thoughts on, but I am gradually trying to bring more natural products into my routine, look out for another Organically You post soon, but for now, I wrote about Organically You a while ago linked here. Organically You Avocado & Rosehip Facial Balm, £8.99
As well as my daily routine I will also use other products throughout the week, such as an exfoliator, target spot treatments when I need it, face masks and other products that I’m trying or dip in and out of, but generally, this is what I use religiously morning and night!
Let me know if you have used any of the above or have anything you would recommend!
Love, Chelsea xxxx
