Hi Lovlies!

I’ve been getting totally carried away recently with watching vlog’s and reading everyone else’s blog posts and then somehow coming away thinking I have done lots of blogging work of my own… ermmmm… doesn’t work like that Chelsea! Does anyone else get carried away reading/watching everyone else’s content and then realize you’ve forgot to do anything of your own? Yeah, need to fix that asap!

So, anyway! Ive been feeling in a bit of a hair rut recently and I think I genuinely need some help! Considering my mum is a trained hair dresser and does my hair for me you would think that I would have a really cool style/colour but I probably have the most boring hair ever. And its so flat. Help.

Don’t get me wrong, I like my long hair, and realistically I can’t see myself changing the colour too drastically any time soon, but I’m very aware that I’m rubbish at styling my hair, when I do it drops out in about 3 seconds, and I could generally do with a little spruce up.

When I was in year 10.. possibly year 9, I decided to go from brunette to blonde in one weekend, and I’m not talking a soft honey blonde, I went 100% white bleach blonde and basically killed my hair. I think because I was going from brunette to blonde so quickly, I felt like anything that wasn’t white looked yellow, because I didn’t give myself time to adjust to the tones. I was SO scared of my hair being yellow that we just bleached it over and over again until there was no pigment left! As a result my hair was snapping off every time I brushed it. I was only blonde maybe 6 months? I can’t really remember too well, but I do remember all of a sudden wondering how my hair had gotten so short from when we first dyed it, considering I hadn’t cut it! Realising it was because my hair was breaking off was pretty heart breaking and so, we (my mum and I) decided it was time to go back brunette.

(get ready for absolutely hilarious/horrific photos from the depth of my friends’ Facebook albums, I don’t have any of myself blonde on this laptop so my only option was these gem’s)

I remember when I first dyed it back I thought that it would only be temporary, and that as soon as I had lovely long hair again I would try for a second time. I think I briefly tried again for about a week in 6th form and then realised it just wasn’t for me and decided to give it up as a bad job! My hair took SO LONG to grow back from the bleach damage and struggled to hold colour for years, but finally it is back to full health, so do I risk chopping it off after I waited so long for it to grow again?

Hair length 1-1.5 years after returning to brunette

Now you’ve had a bit of a background on my hair history… what the hell shall I do next?!

Part of me really wanted to try a dark grey, but upon doing a quick google search it became clear that the only way to do that was to go blonde and then dye it dark grey from that point – something I don’t feel happy about doing since my hair is in its best condition ever at the moment.

I consider cutting my hair into a long bob style probably every day, but again, scared of the chop! Will I miss my long hair? Even though I do naff all in terms of styling I like knowing that I have the option. I also like that with long hair if all else fails I can tie it up and have a nice bouncy pony tail, Is it true that you have to take more time in styling shorter hair? I feel like I’m constantly seeing people try to grow their hair and seeing adverts for different hair extensions, so should I just be happy with my long hair even though I am slightly bored of it? After all, it took bloody ages to grow back after the peroxide problem!

As you’ve probably gathered I’ve had a lot of fleeting idea’s but keep disregarding them. I even keep disregarding just having a subtle balayage style highlight situation… what is wrong with me! So, I have added a few photos of different hair styles/colours I have found on Google that I like. Kind of annoying but pretty much all the hair inspo photos show the hair curled or waved, mine isn’t like this naturally and lord knows I wont be getting up any earlier to do it, so lets try and imagine the photos all styled straight. Please if you guys could comment below and help me figure out what to do I would appreciate it so, so much!!

Oh my goodness–I know the struggle with peroxide! Several years ago when I was 18, I bleached out my hair (which is dark brown) and used a horrible homemade concoction of hydrogen peroxide mixed with baking soda to create a paste that I lathered on my poor hair and then heated repeatedly with a blowdryer to get it to lift my color and turn my hair blonde (an orange-blonde mind you!)
I had my boss at the salon I work at take me back to brown eventually and over time we have trimmed it and I tend to have her feather and thin the ends of my hair. I can keep my length, but it isn’t so heavy! I wouldn’t suggest taking your hair to another color that would require all over bleaching. When my hair was dyed last month to a dark maroon/burgundy red, I only had a level 20 developer mixed with the color to open my hair up and deposit the color, and so far I haven’t noticed any damage to my hair!
Can’t wait to see what you decide to do, and best of luck! 🙂

What are we like! I think the thought of having to go to school with orange hair overcame wanting to actually keep the hair I had from falling out! So scary thinking of getting it all chopped off, maybe some highlights? Xxx

When people want a change but aren’t too sure what they want, I always suggest trying a dip dye 😄 that way you’re not committing yourself to dying all of your hair, and if you really don’t like it you can always cut it off 😄 shorter hair does need regular styling, and personally I always end up regretting it a few weeks into the regrowth phase 😕 but you could always try taking off a little length, seeing how you feel about it for a few week/couple of months, then take a bit more off, then a bit more? That way it’s not too drastic 😄 x

Oo I have actually had a dip dye before, so maybe if I had more like highlights starting lower down like dip dye length that would be nice? I think I might take a bit off the length like you suggested, even if it’s scary! I do like the thought of short hair but every photo you see it’s all styled so nicely and realistically that’s not going to happen for me! Xxx

Yeah exactly! And then if you like it, you could do it all over ☺️ yeah that’s the thing with shorter styles. My hair is curly so I would have to blow dry it and then straighten it everyday. With longer hair I straighten it once a week! I think if you’re worried about taking the plunge, then a gradual change will suit you best and that way you can stop if you think you’ve gone short enough 😁 x
