Hi Lovelies!

This is more of a ‘help me?!’ post than anything!

I was talking to my friend this morning about the blogging world and he was asking me all these questions I knew nothing about, I was so confused and wondering how after 3 months I knew NON of the terminology he was referring to.

He logged into my account for me to try and find the answers he wanted and he realised that the reason I didn’t know anything about anything, was because I don’t have access to the more analytical side of things until I upgrade my account.

I am currently on the Personal plan, which is just £3 a month, billed yearly all at once – nice and easy if you’re just starting out.

From this plan I took advantage of having my own domain name straight away, so I started off as from the very first post instead of having to change it after a while of having my blog. The personal plan heavily minimizes the advertising too, so my posts look clean *I hope*. I have never used the ‘high quality’ email or live chat support… and I don’t actually think I would know where to find the live chat even if I wanted to! The free themes are super handy and there are some really nice ones to choose from so I’m happy with that. The one thing I noticed straight away that is annoying about the Personal plan is that you can’t upload videos, I have been trying to get around this by taking a screen shot of my YouTube videos and then inserting them to posts as a hyperlink… but I bet that is really annoying as a reader to have another page suddenly open! So for that I’m sorry, but I just don’t know when I should be upgrading? Does anyone have any pointers as to when they thought it was necessary?

The next package gives you the freedom to upload videos directly to your posts, and Screen Shot 2018-01-05 at 7.51.43 PMmore then double the storage space for photos/content. You have unlimited premium themes and can customize your layout so its adaptable to be whatever you want it to be, which is pretty handy if you have a layout like mine where you love it apart from a teeny thing that you can’t change! With the Premium plan you can monetize your site too, which means you can have advertising on your page and start earning a small income – if you wish to do so.

So when do you decide to upgrade to a plan like this? At £7 a month (£4 if you already have the personal plan) is it worth the jump?

Do you wait until someone wants to advertise on your site? Or do you set it up early and get used to these new features? Would you stick with the personal plan as long as possible, or until you see enough traffic on your site to feel the need for extra features… I would love to know everyones thoughts on this. The thing I would use the most with the Premium plan is probably uploading videos straight to my posts rather than having to upload to YouTube and then create a hyperlink, or freely customizing my layout. But other than that I don’t think I would use much more! I have no plans to have advertising on my page at the moment… and I certainly don’t have anyone wanting to advertise on my page either! So when is the right time?

Now, the Business plan is where it gets interesting. This plan has by far the most useful Screen Shot 2018-01-05 at 7.53.04 PMfeatures, and all the analytical detail to make sure you know exactly what is going on with your blog. But at £20.83 a month (£17.83 if you already have the personal plan – I’m not sure if its less if you’re signed up to the premium plan?), it is a massive jump from the £3 a month I’m currently paying for the personal plan! But its the analytical features that I’m most interested in. Cry. I can make do with my layout the way it is – I quite like it! And I can also make Screen Shot 2018-01-05 at 7.52.48 PMdo with my video-YouTube situation, it means I’m getting some YouTube practice in there! But I would love to have the SEO tools and the Google analytics integration, because I generally like figures! When my friend was trying to figure out what was going on with my blog today, he looked up my site on his Moz account, and there was all sorts that wasn’t matching up to other blogs and he couldn’t understand why. Moz was showing full sections I hadn’t filled out, key word areas that mean I would show up on Google, and all of them were blank. When he was asking me why I hadn’t done them I was really struggling to find the area to do so, and it was only when he logged on to my account he realised that without significantly upgrading my plan, I just didn’t have the resources to give my little blog good reach.

So, what plan are you on and is it worth it to upgrade for more reach, even if the demand isn’t there? Have you upgraded for the extra features even if you don’t reaaaally need them? Or do you wait until its a necessity?

Please help! Love, Chelsea xxx

To be honest, having blogged for a year and a half I have no idea either! Although let me introduce an option besides the WordPress business plan. If you go self hosted it will be a ton cheaper than the WordPress business plan and you will be just completely off WordPress, I’d look into it if I were you because usually going self hosted is the next step for most bloggers I’ve seen around here. I really hope someone is able to be a lot more helpful than I was!
