Hi Lovelies,
Firstly, sorry its been a while since my last post. I feel like I have to keep starting my posts like this but I just keep getting a bit of a mental block and I’m finding it hard to keep up with writing, work, gym, having a social life and general house work. I know its something that will probably get easier to balance in time but for now I’m just trying to keep on top of what I can, when I can! I like to have posts lined up and scheduled so that if I get busy I will still have content to put out there but at the moment I’m just writing every post as they come – hang in there with me! Tea is being my savior… and jacks cooking.
I thought it might be quite interesting to talk about why I stopped using makeup remover wipes. it has become such second nature to me, not using them, that I forget most people do still use them. It was only recently when I was gifted some Pixi by Petra Makeup Melting Cleansing Cloths that I realised how long it has been. Don’t get me wrong, I have probably used the odd few since ‘stopping’! After a night out, hungover, in-between re-purchasing Micellar water etc, but never a full packs worth in all this time.
About 2 years ago I was having major problems with my skin. There was never a time when I didn’t have a spot, always something somewhere. I was using good exfoliators and cleansers but not regularly. However the thing that really got to me was how I looked even with makeup on. It dawned on me that I was spending a lot of money on high quality, high end makeup, but what was the point? Once it was on my skin it may as well of been anything else, my skin was in such a state underneath, that my makeup never looked as good as it should. And that was all to took!
Of corse, I had heard about how terrible makeup remover wipes are supposed to be for your skin anyway. All the horror stories of them containing the same ingredients at de-icers, but I was able to just sweep that under the carpet. It was only when I realised I was wasting money on my skin care and nice makeup, because the wipes were destroying my skin anyway, that I decided to change everything. And I’m not going to lie, it was a total nightmare at first!
Lets go through the pro’s and con’s of wipes vs cleansing type makeup removers.

  • Convenient AF to take out and about with you
  • They contain the right amount of removing solution, so you don’t have to worry about using too much or too little on cotton wool – its all done for you
  • Quick
  • Easy to travel with
  • They come in a variety of options, you can get ones suitable for acne sufferers, sensitive skin, oil free wipes etc.
  • Low cost

  • They don’t really clean your skin, they just take off whats on the surface – you are still supposed to wash your face with a cleanser afterwards – which not a lot of people know/do
  • They can be very drying because most wipes contain alcohol, this is so the skin dry’s quickly after using them and you aren’t left with a wet face – but alcohol dehydrates your skin
  • They contain A LOT of chemicals – and not the good type, the type that cause break outs because your skin is like ‘WHAT IS THIS?! GET IT OUT OF MY PORES!’
  • The rubbing motion of using wipes can cause pigmentation issues and speed up inevitable wrinkles
  • Because they don’t effectively clean you skin you will be left with makeup/chemical residue on your skin, which is transferred to your pillow when you go to bed, which then goes back onto your skin… vicious circle!

  • Properly removes all makeup and dirt from your skin
  • Scrubs away impurities without irritating your skin, much less friction!
  • No nasty chemicals, only the good kind!
  • Little to no alcohol, so not as drying
  • More options in terms of skin concerns, there is a cleaner for everything!
  • Not as long winded as you think! There are loads of cleansers/liquid makeup removers  that don’t require you to rinse your face afterwards… although you should anyway

  • More time consuming
  • More expensive than wipes
  • You will also need cotton pads/balls to remove your eye makeup
  • More to carry around with you when going somewhere

So, I was having such frustrations with my skin that the few cons were definitely worth it for me. It took a while for me to get used to the process, I would go to take my makeup before bed and be groaning at the thought of removing my makeup with a liquid solution and then cleansing, but eventually I got into the habit. A few times I did cheat and remove my makeup with wipes, after nights out and when I was poorly or just exhausted! But after about 2 months I ran out of the wipes I had left and have never re-purchased!
After a few months of getting used to this I eventually added more products and now it doesn’t take me long at all, and I can’t go to bed without cleansing, toning, serum, eye cream and moisturiser!
And the proof was in the pudding… there photos aren’t the bed as they were taken on my phone before I even started this blog, but the results can’t be denied!

These photos are on a good day, I would always have a few spots somewhere!

Clearing up nicely and pigmentation vanishing

Thank you! I still have moments (like right this second) where my skin will suddenly have a bit of a tizz for no reason but it’s gone within days now. Best thing I ever did was stop using makeup remover wipes! Xxx

When I was growing up all my friends used them! And then when stopped I couldn’t believe the different it made and finally realised how damaging they are. You must have amazing skin if you’ve never been a wipe user! Xxx

I wish I could say I did ahaha, I have always suffered from really bad acne which I took medication to get rid of in my teen years. However, I still get the odd breakouts Xx

Your skin looks amazing! I swapped makeup wipes for cleansers and I have noticed a difference in my skin – it’s definitely worth the extra time cleansing xx
